Hi - I’m Jonathan Peace, author of the Louise Miller crime series, which includes Dirty Little Secret, From Sorrow's Hold, and Cut And Shut. I’m currently working on the 4th book in the series, ‘TIL IT BLEEDS, which I hope to release in November, 2025.
As an indie author, I’ve been looking for the most cost effective method of marketing. *shudders* - I know; it’s a hateful word but sadly a neccessary one if I’d like to get my books in front of as many people as possible and perhaps make a living from this writing lark.
Now in my 50’s I’m done with social media. I left Twitter long before it became X, and Facebook repulses me (no offense if you happily use it; it’s just not for me anymore), and I only use YouTube to watch reaction and tabletop hobby channels. I’ve tried TikTok but the amount of time and effort it takes to put together a video is just wasted time I could better use writing the next book - I have deadlines, you know!
Perhaps naively I want to organically grow a readership, both here and for my books. I don’t want to be hawking myself, begging people to like, subscribe, sign up, join, follow or whatever the latest nomenclature is. I’d like people to find my writing, like what they read and want to continue to do so - not have it forced down their throat.
Therefore this newsletter documents my journey as an indie author, writing stories about a female detective in my hometown of Ossett and the surrounding West Yorkshire landscape of the 80’s and 90’s. I aim to send it out every Sunday, that will be for free, with occasional extra posts each month which are either a bit more personal, or perhaps a sneak peak at what I’m currently writing. Maybe even a cover reveal well ahead of publication. These will be accessible only to paid subscribers.
